Air conditioning units can be complicated pieces of equipment and when they stop working properly, it helps to know if the problem is something that you can handle or if you need an air conditioning service & repair technician.
No Power
Before you start to panic, take a deep breath and go to your circuit breaker or your fuse box. Sometimes an air conditioning unit can cause the circuit to trip, cutting off the electrical connection. If your circuits look good, then the next thing you should check is the thermostat to make sure that someone did not change the temperature setting. If everything looks normal, than you could have a motor on your unit that is going out and it is time to call in a professional air conditioning service & repair technician.
Your condenser keeps turning on and off
This is a problem that you can take care of yourself because this is a clear sign that your condenser or your evaporator is either blocked or dirty. This can happen when you don’t service your air conditioning system on a regular basis. If you go outside and look at your condenser, you are likely to see that weeds, leaves, or other vegetation has blocked the unit. While you are clearing out the overgrown plants, you should also take some time to spray the dust off of the components in the condenser with a garden hose.
NOTE – Be sure not to use any cleaning chemicals when you clean your condenser!
Parts of your house are cooler than others
This is another issue that is easy to fix with a simple rebalance of the air conditioning system.
Warm air blowing out
If you have an air conditioning unit blowing out warm air, there are a number of things that could be causing the problem. Usually it is due to a dirty condenser or those plants that have sprung up around the condenser, which are easy to remove. You might also have your thermostat too high and a simple adjustment will do the trick. If none of these seem to be causing the issue, then you should call an air conditioning service & repair professional to come out and diagnose it.
