10 Tips To Get Your Air Conditioner In Top Shape For Next Year

October 25, 2012BlogBy allstar-air-admin

With the summer coming to an end, and winter drawing closer, it can be very easy to forget all about the air conditioner. However, with the increasing prices in fuel and the record hot summers, it is important to make sure that your air conditioner stays in top shape for the upcoming year. The more you can care for your air conditioner now, the better it will be during the summertime next year.

Here are 10 simple things you can do right now to help safeguard your air conditioner so that it is ready and reliable for the upcoming year.

1 – Start With A Reliable System

If you are looking to buy a new AC unit, spend the money necessary to purchase a top quality brand. If you invest in a high quality system, you will already be ahead of the game when it comes to long lasting equipment.

2 – Invest In Energy Efficiency

One way to save money and improve efficiency is to buy an energy efficient AC unit. These systems are generally more expensive up front, but they are well worth the investment in the money you save over the years.

3 – Check Weather Stripping

Throughout the year, weather stripping can become loose, and caulking can weaken. When this happens, it can become very difficult to maintain the temperature you want in the house. To avoid overuse of your AC and heater, check your weather stripping often and replace any that is damaged.

4 – Clean Or Replace Air Filters

Most standard air filters are supposed to be replaced at least a few times a year, if not more. If you allow your air filters to become dirty and clogged, your air flow will be severely obstructed. This can be very damaging for your AC unit.

5 – Fix Problems ASAP

If you notice any problems, such as strange sounds or unfamiliar smells, it may be time to get your system checked. The sooner you can resolve problems the better.

6 – Invest In A Programmable Thermostat

To avoid unnecessary or over use of your AC, purchase a programmable thermostat so that your home temperature is easily maintained.

7 – Insulate Ducts

Properly insulated and sealed ducts can make a huge difference in the efficiency of your air conditioner. Make sure that ducts are properly sealed to avoid unnecessary and costly air leaks.

8 – Check Airflow

If your AC unit is surrounded by shrubs or other growths, it is important to check for obstructions to your airflow. Check for debris often to avoid unnecessary blockages.

9 – Keep Up With Annual Maintenance

It is a good idea to have a regular maintenance check every year, just to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

10 – Keep Pets Out

Keep pets away from your system to avoid problems with pet dander and urination.

By following these simple tips, you can keep your AC in top shape. To learn more, visit www.allstar-air.com/blog.
